Is Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa a rivalry?
Is OSU vs. Tulsa really a rivalry?
Talk to a TU fan and they'll likely say yes and while most Oklahoma State fans won't agree, the Cowboys have played the Golden Hurricane more than any other school aside from Oklahoma.
The overall series with Tulsa stands at 37-27-5. Competitive, to say the least.
Since 1990, Tulsa is 3-8 versus OSU, and the Cowboys have scored at least 36 points in each of the last 3 contests. Back in 2004, OSU won 38-21 with Cowboy quarterback Donovan Woods 2 touchdown runs to go with a 46-yard TD pass to Chijuan Mack. Remember that guy? Holy shit!
Looking at those numbers, it's hard to say it's not a rivalry of some sort. Right? Or maybe it's just a convenient game for a couple schools about an hour away from each other.
Going in to Saturday’s game at BPS, the Cowboys are riding a 19-game home field winning streak in the series, dating back to a Golden Hurricane win in wonderful 1951. CBS introduced color television in 1951, it’s been a while.
What do you think? Is OSU vs. Tulsa a Rivalry?

You play somebody 69 times its a rivalry
And, we own the overall record, so hell yeah I want it to be a rivalry.

I voted for it being a rivalry
I agree with AUKing (about everything), if you play someone 69 times you are rivals. I would love to see it become more of a “real” rivalry though. Something along the lines of Colorado – Colorado State. TU is every bit as good (or better) of a program as Colorado State, so this is possible, it just needs to be handled and promoted differently. The schools need to treat it as a rivalry so the nation knows its a rivalry.
Agreed..
You like that softball? The basketball rivalry could be really nice. TU’s fan base is pretty old though. It would be hard to ever have a really hated rivlary. Maybe like an old man type rivalry..Respectful.
Like when Texas plays Rice
Had to hate a team you’ve beaten at team 91 times out of the 103 you’ve played them, it’s a rivalry based on times played, but not a hated rivalry since it’s not even. And yet, I have found a way to hate OU. But somethings facts can’t explain.

I'm going the opposite way
Sorry folks. It’s not a rivalry. You like that? Ooooh, such a rebel!
Look, it may have “used” to be a rivalry but it just ain’t so anymore. Want proof? 3,000 of TU’s 5,000 tickets were sent back to OSU. Say what?! Wait a minute…if this is a rivalry how can only 2,000 TU fans care about coming? Ok, the price of the ticket is 90 bones but has anyone ever seen that stop rival fans from purchasing them before?
Also, a lot of those games were played when both schools played in the same conference. Now that OSU is with the big boys, the feud has taken quite a backseat. Can you have a rivalry with a team you take six year breaks from playing?
I vote “Not a Rivalry.”
Hey, if I didn't get student tickets I wouldn't want to pay $90
to see this game, or the Troy game, or the WSU game, but that’s another argument (hint: I think ticket prices are out of control), but the six year breaks are not the rivalry’s fault. And’ the overall is not that out of control, it’s reasonably close. (better than us vs ou or ou vs tx). But, hey, rivalry or not, we need to want to win this game. Tulsa has a lot of instate players, who were not good enough to go to OSU, and want to kick our ass. We should want to kick their ass’s, and make a statement. Win by enough we might even be ranked.
