OSU Football Recruiting Updates

First off, let's start with the visits that I am aware of so far.

This weekend:

Athlete, Jaydon Mickens

Linebacker, Seth Jacobs

Wide Receiver. Keon Hatcher

With homerism aside, we very well could land all three of these guys. Hatcher is currently committed to Arkansas but he is very high on OSU. A switch is definitely possible. I believe we are Jacob's favorite (or top two) which is great considering he is relatively new on OSU's radar. Jaydon Mickens has us near if not the top as well. He sent out a tweet about how much fun his tour has been so far. All three guys are extremely good athletes (two of them being rated as four star) and would be great pick ups for the class.

More after the jump.

Star-divide

January 20th:

Wide Receiver, Javon Williams

Defensive Back, LaDarrell McNeil

Athlete, Trae Elston

Wide Receiver Kenny Lawler

This is a HUGE weekend. A good number of athletes that have already verbally committed to OSU will be visiting that weekend as well so I expect to see at least two of these guys to feel the love and commit as well during their trips. Javon Williams is a huge receiver and looks as if he has narrowed his choices down to Oklahoma State and Arkansas. LaDarrell McNeil...what can I say? He loves OSU but he is committed to Tennessee. If there is going to be a time to grab him, it's this coming weekend. According to Elston, OSU is his current favorite. That bodes well going into his official visit. Kenny Lawler is another great receiver that has pretty recently been added onto the radar. He is extremely high on the Pokes as well.

January 27th:

Running Back, Trey Williams

Linebacker, Corey Thompson

Both guys are currently committed to Texas A&M but are still looking around. Having a last impression may do the trick for the Pokes right before signing day. Both guys are absolutely filthy and would be welcomed with open arms by OSU. Williams is doing a lot of flirting and may just be coming to Stillwater for the free visit. Thompson seems a little more interested to see what else is out there. Either way, a good visit could swing both guys.

As you all can see, the coaches have a lot of great wide receivers still in mind. My guess is that OSU has a couple open spots left for them and the first two to commit get them. And really, you can't go wrong with any of them. They are all incredible athletes that will make huge contributions to the team.

As far as defense goes, Coach Gundy has also scheduled an at-home visit with Oklahoma commit, defensive back Kevin Peterson. Peterson grew up an OSU fan and up until lately, the Pokes did not have a scholarship to offer. It seems things have changed now and Gundy wants to throw his hat into the ring with the Bedlam rival. Being able to secure verbals from him, McNeil, and Jacobs would be tremendous.

Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated.

I've seen Keon play and the kid is good.

Would be a great steal from Arkansas too. I hear that he is very impressed with OSU and was basically just waiting for an offer.

Maybe I'm missing something

But if you thought of yourself as a big time receiver I just don’t see why the hell you’d want to play in the grind it out SEC when you could play in the air it out Big XII. I mean seriously, this is a choice.

Not saying there aren't some good receivers there

Just that the style of play is more on the ground, low scoring, grind it out type football whereas we’re run and gun, throw it all over the field type of play. I’d think if you were picking a place to play the later would be much more attractive as a place to showcase your skills and just to have fun.

Not many 500 yard Receivers in the SEC...

there are definitely some great ones, but drop off from super-stud receivers to simply great receivers yardage in SEC is huge.

Great stuff, Royal!

I also appreciate your take on each prospect.

I always find it interesting to compare how the recruits OSU signs perform over their careers against guys in the same recruiting class that signed with OU, Texas, or aTm. It is my belief we will continue the trend of signing players who will be better than the ones currently on scholarship.

Some interesting tweets so far (and I'm paraphrasing).

From Mickens:

“It feels a lot like family!”

From Hatcher:

“Woah! 2nd night at OSU was….I don’t even know. OSU seems like the spot.”
