One of my childhood foes suffers an untimely passing.
It was the early 70's, and I was just learning to "hate" the Sooners. Jack Mildren was the first of a long line of OU QB's that I would come to dread, running the wishbone to staggering perfection. Steve Davis, however, was the first time I truly understood the fear generated whenever the Sooner QB would stuff the football in the FB's belly for that brief moment.
I would always hold my breath. Davis and OU were just as much a part of my "sports" childhood as OSU.
He was a beloved member of the Sooner family, and I had the utmost respect for him.
Our thoughts go out to our Sooner brethren and the Davis family.
