Oklahoma State Recruiting: National Signing Day 2014 Preview

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

A quick look at where the Oklahoma State 2014 Recruiting Class stands ahead of National Signing Day

National Signing Day is only 7 days away, and Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Coaching Staff have put together another top 30 recruiting class. The cowboys are rebuilding a roster that loses 28 seniors from 2013, as well as top play-maker Josh Stewart who has decided to leave early to enter the NFL Draft. While the bulk of the class appears to lean toward the defensive side of the ball, there are still plenty of highly recruited skill players on the offensive side.

Devante Averette, Tyreek Hill, Devon Thomas, and Mason Rudolph are all enrolled this semester and ready to compete for immediate playing time. Hill is considered to be the likely candidate to replace Stewart in the slot, while Rudolph will undoubtedly be in the running to win the starting QB position.

Here's how the class stacks up nationally according to ESPN and Rivals.

There is still time for OSU to land some big targets in the next week. While there are many potential late commitments to keep an eye on, two players are considered to be the top candidates.

Kenny Young - ILB - River Ridge, LA

John Curtis Christian High School

6-1/ 210 / 40 time 4.6

Intrested in: OSU, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Texas A&M, UCLA, Arkansas

  • ESPN - 4 Star (Grade 80) #16 ILB
  • Rivals - 4 Star (5.9 Rating) #5 OLB
ESPN Analysis
Young brings good blitzing and pass rush ability to the table on passing downs as well. Times his jump and comes with a lot of burst up the middle or off the edge to cause disruption. Carries the same intensity over to special teams coverage. While Young is not the fastest, biggest or most fluid linebacker prospect in class, he has one of the higher ceilings and is very well rounded. Continued physical development while improving his reads and reaction skill set will greatly enhance his stock.

Steven Parker II - Safety - Jenks, OK

Jenks High School

6-2/ 185 / 40 time 4.5

Intrested in: OSU, OU, Arkansas, Auburn, Texas A&M

  • ESPN - 4 Star (Grade 83) #9 S (139th overall)
  • Rivals - 4 Star (6.0 Rating) #6 S (53 overall)
ESPN Analysis

Parker covers a lot of ground quickly on the football field, is a reliable last line of defense and shows the ability to make plays in all three levels regardless of his original alignment. Could develop into a playmaker at the BCS level and very productive overall football player if he can continue to physically develop.

Check back throughout the next few days leading up to Signing Day, as we continue to preview the 2014 Class.
