Three days removed from Oklahoma State falling on the road to Baylor, it’s clear that the Cowboys have not had what they would consider an ideal start to the season.
It’s also no secret that Boone Pickens and Mike Gundy have had what is, in essence, an on-again, off-again relationship. It seems like every other season, there is some sort of tiff between the two, occasionally boiling over into the public eye. This year appears to be the next in the cycle, and Pickens’ was frank about the current relationship between the two.
In an interview with Kirk Bohls of The Austin Statesman, the Oklahoma State booster and namesake said him and Gundy were not talking. When asked if there was a rift between the two, Pickens’ decided this was probably the best thing to say:
“I don’t have any conversations with Gundy,” he said ... “I don’t know, but Mike doesn’t handle people relationships very well. And he gets mad about things. I’ve heard he’s written some notes about me that weren’t very complimentary.”
This same old song and dance between Mike Gundy and Boone Pickens is getting pretty old. Every time OSU starts to wobble a little bit, it seems like tensions get tighter between the two. With OSU trying to grab a huge win with Texas coming to town on Saturday, this is an unnecessary distraction and probably certainly won’t help diffuse the situation.
