Pasted Optimism (pun alert): 6/09/2010

Pasted Optimism is a place where we periodically post a collection of links, quick thoughts, and hopefully one day, a haiku. Click here to view all

"An executive at a Big 12 school relayed to The World-Herald on Tuesday that he expects Nebraska to become a member of the Big Ten as early as Friday". While I'm always skeptical of sources like an "anonymous executive", if correct, the first domino is set to fall. Welcome to Oklahoma, Pac-16.

Five cowboys taken in MLB draft. Mike Strong was the 665th pic. That is not a fake big number for comedic effect...he really was the 665th pic. Baseball has WAY too elaborate of a minor league system.

A quick question: Has ESPN.com overtaken YouTube for the title of worst commenters? Probably not yet, but ESPN is definitely gaining. Go read any article about college sports then go to the comments section. I guarantee that 80% of the comments will follow one of these templates:

  • [insert team name written about in this article] is terrible, they pay their players, and all their fans are [rednecks/trashy/douches]
  • Nobody cares about [whatever article is about], everyone wants to know about [name of favorite team or conference]
  • Socialist Obama will screw up [school name or conference name or entire sport] too once it is government controlled
  • Hey [commenter who posted that team in article's fans are rednecks/trashy/douches], we have [name good things about the school]. What do you have besides fat people?
