Let's take a look at the state of the BIg 12 conference as of this week.  Some schools are playing for a good seed, some are playing for a chance at any seed and some are playing just because you technically have to finish the season even if you suck. We've got 2 very strong teams at the top and then the rest of the league is just "OK."

For the purpose of this hot new weekly piece, "OK" will mean anything from decent to fucking terrible. Now on to the rankings.

1. Texas

There is no question here. Sorry Jayhawk. The Longhorns have the best defense in the country and they won at Allen Fieldhouse. Will they be the first team in the history of the Big 12 conference to go undefeated in conference play? I think so.

2. Kansas

Oops. They Jayhawks drop one on the road to their in state rival. I actually think this is good for the conference. They still have the best player in the conference, a solid defense and good rebounding. Oklahoma State beat them like this a few years back and they won a national title. No worries Jayhawk.

3. Texas A&M

The Aggies are on a 2 game winning streak and currently sit alone in 3rd place. They are a very well coached, athletic team that gets 26% of their points from the charity stripe. Think about that.

4. Baylor

The Bears have two really great players in Lacedarius Dunn and Perry Jones. They just don't get a ton of help from the rest of the team and that's holding them back from being great. They'll have an opportunity to solidify their seed with games against Missouri and A&M left on the schedule.

5. Missouri

Missouri is a good basketball team. I still can't believe we beat them. Marcus Denmon is a beast but could be limited this week by a facial injury. They take on Texas Tech and Iowa State this week so they should be in good shape.

6. Kansas State

The Wildcats win over #1 Kansas will do nothing but help their still stong RPI ranking of 40. With winnable games against OU and Nebraska this weak, K State is on the road to an NCAA Bid.

7. Colorado

The Buffs are coming off a big win against KState but have an angry Jayhawk waiting for them in Lawrence. It won't be pretty.

8. Nebraska

The Huskers aren't anything special offensively, but defensively they are one of the best in the country. They held us to just 36% shooting last weekend.

9. Oklahoma State

Shit Terrible Awful Bad Shit. The Pokes only hope for a chance at the dance is to win 4 more games. Not looking good.

10. Oklahoma

The Sooners have a brutal schedule to close the season out. I don't expect good things for Sooner either.

11. Texas Tech

The Red Raiders have a pretty rough road stretch over the next week with games @ MU @ Baylor and @OkState.

12. Iowa State

The only thing the Cyclones can do at this point is play to avoid a 1-15 finish. It's not lookling good if you're a Cyclone fan.
