Most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their wide receivers coach, Monken has over twenty years experience coaching. He also coached under Les Miles while at OSU from 2002 to 2004. Afterward he was the co-offensive coordinator at LSU for two seasons. He has experience coaching wide receivers, running backs and quarterbacks. He will also double as the quarterbacks coach along with offensive coordinator here at OSU.
First thoughts: Wow. Didn't see this coming. I knew that he was one of the rumored candidates but I didn't think he'd be the guy. He was rumored to have some interesting things to say about how it is difficult recruiting to OSU when he jumped ship with Les Miles back in 2004...then again, at the time it was probably true. A lot has changed in six years.
Other than the past OSU ties, Monken has only been an actual offensive coordinator for two years out of his career (he was the passing game coordinator at LSU). Obviously he has tons of experience at different levels so I'm not sure if there is much to worry about as far as that goes.
That's all for now. More to come. What do you think of the hire?
