The Oklahoman has confirmed the firing through a university source.
Capel led the Sooners to the NCAA regional finals in 2009 with superstar Blake Griffin, but the Sooners have not had a winning season since. In the two seasons since Griffin left for the NBA, Capel is 27-36.
