Coach Gundy said the injury happened in the first quarter but is not career ending. This shows what a tough SOB Walsh is. All he did on that bum knee was throw for 415 yards, the 9th best in school history.
So now with Walsh out, Coach Mike Gundy's hand will be forced. No more games or secrecy. There's only one option and his name is Wes Lunt. The true freshman will most certainly get the start Saturday against TCU with Clint Chelf serving as his backup. Former walk on Jase Chilcoat will be the third on the depth chart.
It's kind of a perfect scenario really. Starter goes down with knee injury. Backup comes in while starters knee heals and does enough good things to kinda get a QB controversy thing going. Then, backup goes does with an injury of his own averting any potential controversy. The choice is clear at this point.
It's not secret that we love JW Walsh here at CRFF and wish him nothing but the best moving forward. The kid is a warrior. Now in the words of ZROB...It's time to press on.
