The trip to Ft Worth in two weeks is NOT looking very inviting.

Tom Pennington

Here's our weekly review of the Cowboys' opponents, who are still wandering around in non-conference play. That will change soon enough. All rankings are AP.

Florida State Seminoles

Record: 5-0 (ACC Atlantic, 3-0)

Last Game: vs Wake Forest

Result: W, 43-3

Next Opponent: at Syracuse

National Ranking: 1

The Seminoles didn't mess around this week, and will probably clean up shop in the Carrier Dome this Saturday before setting their sites on Notre Dame.

Missouri State Bears (FCS)

Record: 3-2 (MVFC, 0-1)

Last Game: vs #12 Youngstown State

Result: L, 14-7

Next Opponent: at South Dakota State

National Ranking: NR (FCS)

The Bears drop a tough one to the Penguins (yep, that's right). Things don't get any easier as they travel to South Dakota State (3-2).

UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) Roadrunners

Record: 1-4 (Conf USA - West, 0-1)

Last Game: vs New Mexico

Result: L, 21-9

Next Opponent: vs Florida International

National Ranking: NR

Larry Coker needs to get things turned around in San Antonio. Everything that looked rosy after thrashing Houston and almost upsetting Arizona has quickly gone in the tank.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Record: 2-3 (Big 12, 0-2)

Last Game: at #23 Kansas State

Result: L, 45-13

Next Opponent: vs West Virginia

National Ranking: NR

Kliff and the Red Raiders are in a free fall, and it doesn't get any easier with West Virginia coming to Lubbock.

Iowa State Cyclones

Record: 1-4 (Big 12, 0-3)

Last Game: at #21 Oklahoma State

Result: L, 37-20

Next Opponent: vs Toledo

National Ranking: NR

If you want to whine about the review, I have a FG replay I'd like you to watch. November 8 will likely be the battle for the basement with Kansas.

Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 2-3 (Big 12, 0-2)

Last Game: at West Virginia

Result: L, 33-14

Next Opponent: vs #16 Oklahoma State

National Ranking: Don't let your children watch.

Don't even know the name of the new coach, and it doesn't matter. Cowboys should coast.

Record: 4-0 (Big 12, 1-0)

Last Game: vs #4 Oklahoma

Result: W, 37-33

Next Opponent: at #5 Baylor

National Ranking: #9

First test passed with flying colors, and the Frogs made one of the biggest leaps EVER in the polls, going from 24th to 9th. They're gonna have to back that up as the road trip to Waco awaits.

Record: 3-2 (Big 12, 1-1)

Last Game: vs Kansas

Result: W, 33-14

Next Opponent: at Texas Tech

National Ranking: NR (received votes)

Mountaineers did a little sleep walking in a game that was not as close as the score. Be careful Dana, people have been known to catch things other than a football in Lubbock.

Record: 4-1 (Big 12, 2-0)

Last Game: vs Texas Tech

Result: W, 45-13

Next Opponent: Bye

National Ranking: #17

Tech provided a little more resistance than the upcoming bye week.

Record: 2-3 (Big 12, 1-1)

Last Game: vs #7 Baylor

Result: L, 28-7

Next Opponent: vs #11 Oklahoma

National Ranking: NR

Iowa State and Buffalo scored WAY more points than you did against Baylor, and you were at home. The good news? Baylor scored WAY less than they did against those other two, so at least your defense is better. Hope that helps when you line up against a pissed off Sooner team.

Result: 5-0 (Big 12, 2-0)

Last Game: at Texas

Result: W, 49-21

Next Opponent: vs #9 TCU

National Ranking: #5

Comments: jumped by two teams in the polls. That's what happens when you beat crappy teams for a living. Your chance is coming this week.

Record: 4-1 (Big 12, 1-1)

Last Game: at #24 TCU

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: vs Texas (neutral site)

National Ranking: #11

Sooners were obviously looking past TCU to Texas. Oh, and TCU is good.
