OKLAHOMA STATE FOOTBALL: Opponents 401

We have a limited amount of data to discuss as the league basically took the week off.

Ronald Martinez

Here's our weekly review of the Cowboys' opponents, who are still wandering around in non-conference play. That will change soon enough.

Florida State Seminoles

Record: 3-0 (ACC Atlantic, 1-0)

Last Game: vs #22 Clemson

Result: W, 23-17 (OT)

Next Opponent: at NC State

National Ranking: 1

Comments:

Jameis was eventually suspended for the entire game, and the Seminoles managed to scratch out a win. If that drama results in further issues for Winston, Florida State still might be ok. Notre Dame is currently the only ranked team remaining on their schedule.

Missouri State Bears (FCS)

Record: 3-1 (MVC, 0-0)

Last Game: at Central Arkansas

Result: W, 33-31

Next Opponent: Bye

National Ranking: #24 (FCS)

Comments:

This was a "mystery" win for the Bears, who needed a career best 53 yd FG as time expired to survive despite an almost 200 yd advantage in total offense, almost 10 minute advantage in TOP, and 3 Central Ark turnovers. It's still a win, however, and they get to enjoy a bye week before hosting #12 Youngstown State.

UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) Roadrunners

Record: 1-2 (Conf USA - West, 0-0)

Last Game: Bye

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: at Florida Atlantic

National Ranking: NR

Comments:

UTSA will be looking to stop a 2 game slide, and it won't be easy against the Owls despite their 1-3 record.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Record: 2-1 (Big 12, 0-0)

Last Game: Bye

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: at #24 Oklahoma State (Thursday night)

National Ranking: NR

Comments:

Gosling ball isn't taking hold in Lubbock, but fortunately for Tech they are playing a team whose offensive line hasn't been able to push anybody around. Should be an interesting evening in Stillwater.

Iowa State Cyclones

Record: 1-2 (Big 12, 0-1)

Last Game: Bye

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: vs Baylor

National Ranking: NR

Comments:

I think King represented the sentiments of many of us in this week's Power Poll. There's a lot of things we'd be willing to do for a Cyclone upset of the Bears.

Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 2-1 (Big 12, 0-0)

Last Game: vs Central Michigan

Result: W, 24-10

Next Opponent: vs Texas

National Ranking: They have a chance to not be last

Comments:

After a dicey first half, the Jayhawks finished up strong. Now they have a legit chance to do something that hasn't happened since 1938.

TCU HORNED FROGS

Record: 2-0 (Big 12, 0-0)

Last Game: Bye

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: at SMU

National Ranking: NR (received votes)

Comments:

Frogs will be 3-0 before entertaining the Sooners on 10/4.

WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS

Record: 2-2 (Big 12, 0-1)

Last Game: vs Oklahoma

Result: L, 45-33

Next Opponent: Bye

National Ranking: NR (received votes)

Comments:

OU not only showed up with their equipment, but they also brought a freshman RB disguised as a bag full of bowling balls, and proceeded to pummel the West Virginia defense, who should be very happy with a bye week. Kansas should provide a nice, easy follow up a week from Saturday.

KANSAS STATE WILDCATS

Record: 2-1 (Big 12, 1-0)

Last Game: vs Auburn

Result: L, 20-17

Next Opponent: vs UTEP

National Ranking: #25

Comments:

Snyder and the Wildcats better be careful. If the Miners are stealing signals, this could be trouble.

TEXAS LONGHORNS

Record: 1-2 (Big 12, 0-0)

Last Game: Bye

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: at Kansas

National Ranking: NR

Comments:

The most intriguing part of this matchup will likely be the coin toss. There should be a petition for this game to be on the LHN.

BAYLOR BEARS

Result: 3-0 (Big 12, 0-0)

Last Game: Bye

Result: N/A

Next Opponent: at Iowa State

National Ranking: 7/6 (AP/USA)

Comments:

Squinky, if there was ever a moment for you to accidentally wake up for a Saturday game that didn't involve OSU, this would be it. We can't count on Claude.

OKLAHOMA SOONERS

Record: 4-0 (Big 12, 1-0)

Last Game: at West Virginia

Result: W, 45-33

Next Opponent: Bye

National Ranking: 4/3

Comments:

The Sooners handled their first quality test very well, and now get a bye week to rest up for their next quality test at TCU.

Last week was awful. Don't ever do that again Big 12. Bye weeks stink.

Watch CRFF for game times and channels for all the Big 12 action.
