Have you ever noticed that when the college football season kicks off your grass barely grows any more, and by the time conference play comes around it's quit altogether? That's not a coincidence. Mother Nature herself would rather be inside cursing at coaches and celebrating big plays with the rest of us, than make sure the sun stays out long enough to keep the plants alive. So put away the mower and pick up the remote. College football is on!
Up first, the Big 12 Conference. If you haven't signed up for our Big 12 Pick 'Em Challenge, it's not too late!
Iowa State would like to erase the pain of a humiliating loss last week with a win this week. Unfortunately they're staring 0-2 in the face with Kansas State coming into town. Paul Rhodes better figure a way to get it turned around quick as the only thing he looks to be winning this season is the race to the Big 12 bottom.
Oklahoma travels up to Tulsa in another warm up game before a better than expected Tennessee squad comes to test those lofty Sooner expectations.
About the time the Brinks trucks head to Missouri State the Bears bus will be pulling into Stillwater for their yearly this-is-gonna-hurt-but-we-gettin-paid game. The timing couldn't be better for the Pokes either. For all intents and purposes, a bye week is exactly what the Cowboys need coming off the big game against FSU.
In more battles of the who cares, SE Missouri State goes to Kansas, and West Virginia welcomes Towson, and Northwestern State visits Baylor. The Bears will undoubtedly put the shiny new scoreboard to the test as Briles runs up the score with 4th down conversions and late touchdowns. You know... because they "need the work".
Texas is in trouble. The Longhorns would like to avenge the spanking BYU laid on them a year ago, but at the pace Charlie Strong is losing players, they should just worry about being able to field a team the rest of the season.
Things are pretty bad at Texas Tech if the second coming of Ryan Gosling can't get them on TV when anyone is awake. Hopefully for the Red Raiders, last weeks near upset was just a case of looking ahead to UTEP.
