COLLEGE FOOTBALL OPEN GAMETHREAD: Oklahoma State at West Virginia

Here's hoping this isn't a repeat of 2013.

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Since joining the Big 12, West Virginia has had a rough go of it, posting their first winning record in conference play just last season.

That has not extended to it's conference series with OSU.

The Cowboys are 1-2 against the Red Bull Express in Big 12 play, losing the last two. The last time they were in Morgantown (2013), the sloppy loss cost OSU a shot at an undefeated season, and the game against the Sooners would have likely been for a chance to play in the national championship game. It was not to be.

Once again, Gundy takes his boys to The House of the Burning Couch undefeated, albeit this time that record feels a bit tenuous.

West Virginia is coming off a messy, bad loss to OU in Norman, in which they had 5 turnovers, so I would imagine they will come out sharp and ready to play this week.

Great.

Let's throw in that it's a night game in Morgantown, AND it's homecoming (although it's also fall break....what rocket scientist scheduled that?). Should be a great atmosphere for prime time on ESPN2 (7pm Eastern). It's also another full slate of Big 12 action. Here are the other games, all times Eastern:

OU vs. Texas @ 12pm, ABC

BU @ KU @ 12pm, FS1 (must have lost the coin toss this week)

ISU @ TT @ 3:30pm, FSN (check local listings)

TCU @ KSU @ 7:30pm, FOX

Overall, despite conference play being in full swing, there aren't many compelling games today. Here are my picks:

  • #13 NW at #18 Michigan @ 3:30pm, BTN (two ranked Big 10 teams hiding out?)
  • #23 Cal at #5 Utah @ 10pm, ESPN

Check out the entire schedule here.

See you in the comments!

GO POKES!!!
