Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls beat Lamar 90-45 for the season opener. Local elementary, middle school students and regular spectators packed Gallagher Iba Arena on Friday afternoon for Cowgirl Class at the Court to cheer on the Cowgirls for a victory against Lamar. The Cowgirls have won 10 straight season openers and hold a 7-0 record against Lamar.

Senior ,Brittany Martin, had her 18th career double-double and ended the game with 12 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and six steals. While the upperclassmen shined, freshman Jentry Holt, Latashia Jones, Karli Wheeler and Alana Simon made their first appearances on court.

Despite the win, the injury bug has already taken an effect on the team when junior Katelyn Loecker, left the game in the second half with a knee injury and did not return for the remainder of the game.

TheCowgirls shot 54 percent (33-61) and maintained a 21 and 2 record under head coach Jim Littell when shooting over 50 percent.
