Defense Shines as Cowgirls Win

Cowgirls forced turnovers, Brittney Martin starts 100th game

As they all say, defense wins games, as the Oklahoma State Cowgirls beat Texas Southern, 87-52, with a crowd of 2,057 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowgirls forced 21 turnovers and didn't let the Lady Tigers score until six minutes already passed in the first quarter. Rebounding also played a part as the Cowgirls out rebounded the Lady Tigers on offense and defense with a 53-24 advantage.

Defense became the highlight of the night, but Brittney Martin became the star of the night. Martin made her 100th career start and led in a big way with 24 points, seven rebounds and a game-high of four steals.

Sophmore Kaylee Jensen was huge on both sides of the court with 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Cowgirls.

Junior Katelyn Loecker reached her career-high of 14 points, 10 of those points came in the 4th quarter.

The win helped the Cowgirls improved to 2-0 and their secured their 42nd non-conference home victory in a row, also improving their all-time record against against Texas Southern to 7-0.

Before the game, there was a moment of silence for former head coach, Kurt Budke, assistant coach Miranda Serna, Paula and Olin Branstetter who died in the plane crash on Nov. 17, 2011, while heading to Arkansas on a recruitment trip.
