Bishop Dunne (Dallas) All-State Defensive tackle Darrion Daniels has signed his letter of intent to play for the Cowboys. Daniels is listed as the #27 defensive tackle on ESPN, and is a consensus 4 Star prospect on the major recruiting sites.

Listed at 6-4 290 lbs, Daniels might be the most talented high school defensive tackle to come to Stillwater since former star and current Seattle Seahawks lineman Kevin Williams. He will most certainly add quality depth to a unit that lost James Castleman and Ofa Hautau to graduation.

Darrion made his commitment to OSU live on CBS Network's Lemming Report last weekend. Daniels held over 25 offers, although it was believed his top four prior to committing were OSU, OU, Texas Tech, and Iowa.

Here is ESPN's assessment of Daniels:

Size-Speed-Strength

Daniels possesses prototypical height and size for the position. Displays very long arms and the ability to get leverage quickly when working out of his stance with low pad. Shows good playing strength to both keep blockers away from frame and to hold ground versus double teams. Is deceptively agile for his size.

Versus the Run

Displays above average gap discipline. Shows the ability to control blockers and make plays at the line of scrimmage. Will shoot gaps and disrupt plays in the backfield. Will fight off blocks with low pad level. Shows a first step to create good initial surge and knock back blocker.

Pass Rush Skills

Is an active hand fighter. Length will allow him to create separation and press blocker. Not overly agile to move laterally but has the ability to counter and get even with offensive line. Will align at both the nose and on the edge but looks to be more productive in the interior with the ability to press the pocket.

Bottom Line

Daniels has very good upside due to his size and ability to move on his feet. Has to be more consistent with his get off but shows flashes of good ability to disrupt with above average snap anticipation. Most likely a Power Conference prospect with good overall versatility.

Darrion will join Motekiai Maile and Taaj Bakari as the 3rd defensive tackle in this years class. Graham Coffelt's in depth film analysis on Daniels is a must read.
