NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen Open Thread: Friday

Four games down, four to go. By the end of the day the Elite 8 field will be set. Ready for basketball?

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday provided some interesting games and some absolute dominations. Thanks for representing the Big 12 West Virginia. Let's move on from that however and focus on today's games!

Gonzaga vs. UCLA

The Bruins come in being the lowest seed to make it to the Sweet 16. There not exactly a Cinderella however as they're a pretty pristine program. To get to this point to Bruins took down SMU on a very controversial call and then laid the smack down on UAB, who upset Iowa State by the way. Gonzaga, the number 2 seed in the South, got here after big victories over both North Dakota State and Iowa. This figures to be a great matchup, with Mark Few fielding another great team and UCLA who is led by sharpshooter Bryce Alford.

Louisville vs. NC State

Louisville always seems to be making a run in the tournament under head coach Rick Pitino. This year the Cardinals face off against the Wolfpack after sneaking by UC Irvine and dispatching UNI. They face an upset-minded tested NC State team that beat LSU by 1 in Round 2 and upset the number 1 seed in the East region, Villanova. The winner of this matchup will go on to the Elite Eight to face the winner of OU/Michigan State.

Duke vs. Utah

The Blue Devils and coach K face off against the Utes in this Sweet Sixteen Matchup. Utah will accept its underdog role in trying to knock off the red hot Dukies. Utah got passed Stephen F. Austin and Georgetown to get to this point while Duke easily dismantled Robert Morris and San Diego State to reach weekend number 2. If you're an NBA fan, especially of a bad team this is your game to watch. Duke has quite a bit of pro-talent in their line-up expected to go pro after this year.

Oklahoma vs. Michigan State

OU is the Big 12's last hope in this tournament. This leaves us with a dilemma root for the Big 12 and have to root for OU, or hope OU loses and the Big 12 is out. Whatever you choose Michigan State is going to be one tough opponent for the Sooners. The Spartans got past 10-seeded Georgia and then upset the second seed Virginia in an excellent game...if you are a fan of defense. The Spartans are led by one of the best coaches in college basketball in Tom Izzo. To get to the Sweet Sixteen the Sooners defeated Albany in the second round and then Dayton last weekend. OU will have to play better than they have so far in the tournament if they want to win tonight.
