Oklahoma state pitcher Michael Freeman has had an impressive 2015 season, going 6-0 in eight starts, earning a 1.46 ERA, striking out 50 and throwing two complete games.
It's only April but Freeman is already starting to get credit for the amazing year. In a press release sent out from OSU, Freeman has been added to the Golden Spikes Award watch list along with 59 other players.
The Golden Spikes Award recognizes the best amateur baseball player in the country and the award will have a rolling list (athletes not on the list can still be put on it) until May when semifinalists are announced.
Freeman has pitched outstandingly in Big 12 games this year and according to the press release from OSU is 3-0 in the conference and has got 87 percent of his outs via ground ball outs or strikeouts.
There are four other names from the Big 12 on the list, including TCUs Mitchell Traver.
The award site has more information and even talks about the fan voting process for when the time comes.
