First, I want to say that the guys over at ESPN Big 12 (Brandon Chatmon, Max Olson and Jake Trotter), do a great job. Today, they posed the question Oklahoma State fans have been waiting for since Brandon Weeden left.
Is Mason Rudolph the best sophomore quarterback in the Big 12?
Ok, maybe not the question you've been waiting for, but it's good to have this one asked and it's a great talking point. On one hand, you have Mason Rudolph, who keeps completing at least 65 percent of his passes and throwing for five touchdowns compared to one interception. On the other, you've got the electric, fast-paced offense quarterback Pat Mahomes from Texas Tech. No matter what team you root for, what Kliff Kingsbury has done with him in Lubbock is amazing.
Here's a clip of what they had to say on each one:
Brandon Chatmon (picked Rudolph)
"Rudolph is just scratching the surface as a quarterback, but he's been outstanding during his young career. Through six games of his Oklahoma State career, Rudolph is 111 of 176 for 1,800 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. More importantly, he's 5-1 as a starter with his lone loss at Baylor and wins over Oklahoma and Washington."
Max Olson (Picked Mahomes)
What sets Mahomes apart in this discussion: his ability to extend plays, get outside the pocket and pick up gains with his feet. He's picked up 287 yards and 22 first downs on his 58 career rushing attempts, and there's a reason why he still hasn't been sacked once this season.
So what do you say, who's the best?
