If you missed the whole first half, well, it was okay. The Cowboys jumped out to a pretty quick lead in the first quarter and then just peed the bed in the second quarter. You can read more about that here.
Then it got even weirder. The Cowboys defense stepped up huge in this second half, allowing no points on defense and forcing multiple punts and even a turnover. However, the offense went back to the form that we've all become accustomed to seeing, unfortunately.
Mason Rudolph threw two interceptions, both pretty bad. The Cowboys ran the ball three times in one drive at one point and punted the ball. They just kept looking as if they were buttering themselves up for the fetal position so Texas could sing us all to sleep tonight to the tune of "The Eyes Of Texas". J.W. Walsh started to play more, Rudolph looked rattled for the first time ever in his eight game career, it was the craziest half I've seen from the Cowboys since they started playing better in Waco last year.
Yet somehow, we were still in this game. Somehow, whether it be defense, penalties luck or a deal with the devil, the Cowboys were able to drive down field and kick a field goal with 1:33 left on the clock. That's right, Ben Grogan hit a 40+ yard field goal to tie a big game.
The Cowboy defense came in and picked up seven sacks, that's a huge reason. With 42 ticks left on the clock, the Cowboys had a chance. After a three and out drive for the Longhorns, they had to punt. But the punter fumbled the snap and kicked it away for what would be negative yards.
The Cowboys got the ball at the 18 yard line.
All they had to do was kneel the ball three times. Texas had two timeouts. Then a false start happened, forcing a 10-second runoff with just 10 seconds. Thankfully the Pokes had a timeout. So Ben Grogan had to kick a 40-yard field goal, and he actually made it. 30-27 Cowboys.
We have no idea what just happened. The craziest game was just played and the Longhorns had six seconds on the clock to drive the field and win. But the Cowboys are now 4-0.
