Things didn't go well for the Cowboys in Manhattan on Saturday, but it was a different story for the Cowgirls down the road in Lawrence.
The Cowgirls rocked the Jayhawks in a 74-46 route at Allen Fieldhouse and has now won three-straight Big 12 games for the first time this season. OSU had no trouble at all, as it became obvious just after tipoff - when they had a 13-0 lead in the middle of the first quarter and held the Jayhawks 25 percent from the field at the end of the first quarter.
Senior All-American Brittney Martin caught the sick bug coming into this game, but that didn't stop her as she had another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds at the end of the first half. Martin finished the game with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Three other Cowgirl players made double figures; sophomore Kaylee Jensen with 15 points and nine rebounds, sophomore Mandy Coleman with 11 points and freshman Karli Wheeler made her first career start and ended the day with 10 points.
Not only has Oklahoma State rebouned well lately, but they have also kept almost all of the Big 12 teams under 40-points. Last season, Cowgirls started the Big 12 with a 2-5 record, but finished the conference season strong and squeaked into the NCAA tournament. However, this victory improved the Cowgirls to 15-4 and 5-2 in the Big 12 and is a game ahead of Oklahoma for fourth place.
They were predicted to finish eighth in the conference. The team looks to get some breathing room and rest as they return to Gallagher-Iba Arena on January 30 against TCU.
