Oklahoma State had some trouble against TCU last season, but the Cowgirls showed no signs of that on Saturday in their 80-52 victory over the Horned Frogs.
In the first half, the Cowgirls shot 60 percent from the floor while Karli Wheeler and Sydney Walton made two three-point baskets apiece. Walton made four shots from downtown in the middle of the second quarter to help extend the lead to 27-18. At the end of the second quarter, sophomore Kaylee Jensen scored 10 points to help the Cowgirls burst to a 48-30 halftime score.
When the second half started, the Cowgirls continued to dominate on the floor with an 8-0 run to help extend the lead to 64-39. However, TCU made a short run in the fourth quarter with three three-pointers to cut the lead to 68-47. The Cowgirls found a way to end the run when All-American Brittney Martin slipped in a layup; Martin had another double-double with 19 points,10 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.
The Cowgirls kept the Horn Frogs' shooting to 33 percent; on offense, the Cowgirls had a solid night passing the ball with 23 assists.This victory moved the Cowgirls to 16-4 overall and 6-3 in conference. The win also helped the Cowgirls extend the winning streak to four games. The Cowgirls will hit the road again on Wednesday as they head to Norman for Bedlam: Round Two - where they will put their winning streak on the line once again.
