As if I need another reason to be excited about the start of college basketball. Another month, another publication praising Mike Holder’s hiring of Brad Underwood as OSU’s new basketball coach. Athlon Sports released their list of the 10 most important hires in college basketball for the season, and Underwood found himself on the list.
I think we can all agree with writer David Fox’s assessment that OSU was in need of a coaching change.
The once-proud Oklahoma State program is in need of a jolt. The Cowboys haven’t been to the Sweet 16 since 2005 under Eddie Sutton, and they’re coming off their worst season since 1986-87. In Underwood, Oklahoma State adds a proven winner.
This is just the latest publication to tout the hiring of Underwood as a good one, and so far I think OSU fans agree. While we still need to see him actually coach a game in the Big 12, there’s no denying that he has felt like a great fit since his introductory press conference.
Jamie Dixon of TCU and Chris Beard of Texas Tech also made the list. (Not to pile on Travis Ford, but if you scroll down in the article you’ll find his name mentioned too.)
It’s just another reason to be excited about basketball season. Something most OSU fans haven’t been able to do in quite some time.
OSU tips off the season Nov. 1st in an exhibition game against Pittsburgh State. The real season starts Nov. 11th against Campbell.
