It’s OSU’s bye week, but we don’t take week’s off here at CRFF. For week 7 of the weekly draft where the analysis matters and the points don’t, we’re going to the pros!
This week each of us will pick one former OSU athlete currently playing professionally. Football, golf, basketball... it’s all up for grabs. No double picks were allowed and the top two picks get points. Three points for the winner, one point for the runner up.
Let’s take a look at the standings after week 6:
Phillip - 18 points
Cade - 16 points
Christopher/Kyle - 13 points
Dustin - 13 points
Joel - 13 points
So let’s get started
Phillip
Dan Bailey - Dallas Cowboys
Sunday @ Packers
Bailey is and has been one of the most consistent players in the NFL for the past few years. I realize he’s been dealing with back pain, but after going 4/4 on extra points last week I’m willing to roll with him this week. I’m also expecting Dex to have a rough week against the best team he’s faced all season. When the offense is stalling, the Cowboys rely on Bailey’s leg for points. Here’s hoping Mr. Consistent delivers.
Cade
Emmanuel Ogbah* - Cleveland Browns
Sunday @ Titans
Dan Bailey should’ve been off limits, as he is a cyborg. Let it be known that I am playing under protest. I also wanted to pick Dez Bryant here. It is unclear whether or not Dez will play against the Packers, but if he does, LET IT BE WRITTEN AND LET IT BE SO ... Dez is my pick if he plays. If not, I will go with E-Man. Playing against a pretty solid offensive line for the Tennessee Titans, I’m not sure how much of an impact he will have, but maybe this is the game he breaks out for a sack.
Dustin
Charles Howell III - PGA
Safeway Open
So, everyone was really excited about the Safeway Open with the news that Tiger Woods would be back. But now that he's officially withdrawn from the event, I'm sure most of you have lost interest. Well, not me, because for this week's MVP draft I'm taking Chucky Three Sticks. Howell has 5 top 10 finishes this year, and I think he's due for a victory. Also, just as a side note, I think it's really cool that he's from Augusta, Georgia. He was born to be a golfer.
Kyle
Markel Brown - Cleveland Cavaliers
Thursday vs Toronto Raptors
Friday @ Chicago Bulls
The third-year guard is trying to make a Cleveland Cavaliers’ roster that is in need of depth in the backcourt. Monday night in Atlanta, Brown pitched in 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting off the bench. Since he will be trying to earn a spot, Brown will be motivated to continue to make a splash with any opportunity he gets. He will have a couple shots this weekend as the Cavs are at home against Toronto on Thursday and travel to Chicago on Friday. The former Cowboy averaged just 5.9 points in just under 16 minutes per game with the Nets last year but hey, it’s preseason.
Joel
Marcus Smart - Boston Celtics
Thursday @ Brooklyn Nets
Saturday vs New York Knicks
Coming into his 3rd year in the league, he's gained a reputation as a good defender and his shot has improved in his first two years. I don't think he'll be an all star this year, but he will definitely become one of the better players in the NBA, especially in the Eastern Conference.
