Cowboy Cross Country Brings Home 9th Consecutive Title

Cowgirls finish second

okstate.com

Yesterday, the Oklahoma State Men’s Cross Country Team won the school its 53rd National Championship Title.

It was the 9th straight title for coach Dave Smith. Junior Hassan Abdi led the Cowboys with a 3rd place finish in the race, however, he was not alone at the top. There were four other Cowboys joining him in the Top 15: Senior Luis Martinez (5th), Junior Josh Thompson (7th), Senior Anthoney Armstrong (10th), and Sophomore Christian Liddell (11th) rounded out the top five Cowboys.

It didn’t start out well for Abdi - he lost both his shoes early in the race.

Coach Smith made sure to give credit where credit was due following the race.

The women finished in 2nd place overall, coming in behind only Iowa State. The Cowgirls had five finishers in the Top 25: freshman Michelle Magnani (7th), senior Kaela Edwards (13th), junior Aurora Dybedokken (18th), junior Molly Sughroue (21st), and junior Abbie Hetherington (23rd).

When talking about the freshman finisher, Smith (who coaches both men and women cross country), had this to say.

Up next, both the Cowboys and Cowgirls head into the postseason with a trip to Iowa City to defend their Midwest Regional Titles.
