Cowboys ranked No. 18 in first College Football Playoff Rankings of 2016

It appears that some people outside Stillwater are finally looking at OSU as the one loss team they are.

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Oklahoma State Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

Gundy has been saying it since the Baylor game - “We’re a one loss team.”

When they released their first College Football Playoff rankings for this season, it appears that the committee is treating Gundy’s Cowboys as just that - a team with a lone loss.

Tonight, it was announced that Oklahoma State is coming in at #18. It is worth noting that both the AP and Coaches Poll put us at #22.

Here’s who the committee ranked in the top 5 spots:

1. Alabama
2. Clemson
3. Michigan
4. Texas A&M (huh?!)
5. Washington

There are three other Big 12 teams ranked:

14. Oklahoma
17. Baylor
20. West Virginia

It’s refreshing to see that the committee appears to be looking past the CMU debacle, or at least giving it less weight than the other two major polls. The release of the CFP rankings signals the last leg of the football playoff race beginning, and we are starting down the home stretch. It should be a fun final month of football!
