Oklahoma State wrestling routs Bucknell in season opener

The No. 1 Cowboys earn five bonus-point wins.

The Oklahoma State wrestling team didn’t look like it was missing two All-American starters.

The No. 1 Cowboys earned five bonus-point wins en route to a 36-3 victory over Bucknell on Sunday at NEO Fieldhouse in Miami, Okla.

Senior Kyle Crutchmer recorded a first-period fall at 174, redshirt freshman Nick Piccininni (125) and Jonce Blaylock (149) posted technical falls and redshirt freshman Kaid Brock (133) and redshirt sophomore Chandler Rogers (165) tallied major decisions.

OSU (1-0) was without 149-pounder Anthony Collica and 157-pounder Joe Smith. Collica competed at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic on Saturday night at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center. Fourth-ranked Collica avenged his loss at last spring’s national tournament to No. 3 Lavion Mayes of Missouri with a 7-5 decision at the Classic.

Junior Davey Dolan stepped into Smith’s spot, and suffered OSU’s lone loss in a 7-5 decision to Victor Lopez of Bucknell.

Defending national champion Dean Heil faced No. 19-ranked Tyler Smith at 141 in the only match featuring two ranked wrestlers. Heil grabbed three takedowns in the first period and added another with 35 seconds left in the second before earning a 14-7 decision with riding time.

Senior Nolan Boyd (184), redshirt sophomore Preston Weigel (197) and senior Austin Schaefer (285) each recorded decisions.

OSU will rest up before hitting the road to face No. 15 Minnesota on Sunday, Nov. 27 in Minneapolis.
