It might have been the pink and white jerseys that the Cowgirls wore as a part of Play4Kay, but whatever it was helped as the Cowgirls beat No. 24 West Virginia at Gallagher-Iba Arena, 63-51.
In the first quarter, Oklahoma State started strong by fueling a 10-0 run thanks to sophomore Kaylee Jensen's six points. Jensen finished the game with a game high 18 points and eight rebounds. Also, All-American Brittney Martin helped out the run by scoring four points in the first six minutes. Martin finished the game with eight points, 16 rebounds and three steals. At the beginning of the second quarter, the Cowgirls went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead, however both teams struggled to score throughout the second quarter. Despite the offensive struggles, OSU took the lead at halftime, 32-14.
In the third quarter, West Virginia had momentum by scoring points on the offensive side efficiently and forcing a turnover to cut the Cowgirls lead to 12. However, the Cowgirls managed to keep scoring and would get three players in double figures by the end of the third quarter with the lead set at 53-38. Junior Katelyn Loecker helped by forcing the Mountaineers into foul trouble.
The victory helps the Cowgirls move to 19-5 overall, 9-4 in the Big 12 and has sole possession of third place in the Big 12 standings. The Cowgirls will return to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Waco and face the No. 4 Baylor Lady Bears for a possible upset.
