Coleman Scott, a 2008 national champion at Oklahoma State, won gold at 61 kg/134 lbs. in men's freestyle at the Pan American Championships on Saturday at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.
The 2012 Olympic bronze medalist defeated Cuero Munoz of Colombia, 8-4, in the finals. Scott scored three takedowns to lead 6-2 at the break. He added another takedown in the second period for the four-point win.
Scott, the current head coach at North Carolina, was joined by Sunkist Kids teammates Jordan Burroughs at 74kg./163 lbs. and Sam Hazewinkel 57kg./125.5 lbs. atop the podium.
Burroughs, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist and two-time undefeated national champion at Nebraska, scored a 12-2 technical fall over Carlos Aruturo Izquierdo Mendez of Colombia. Hazewinkel, a 2012 Olympian and four-time All-American at Oklahoma, defeated Canadian Darthe Capellan. 7-5.
Frank Molinaro (70kg./154 lbs.), a 2012 national champion at Penn State, and Dom Bradley (125kg./275 lbs.), a former Missouri wrestler, also won gold.
2015 World bronze medalist James Green of Nebraska (65 kg./143 lbs.), fell 10-6 to Anthony Jose Montero Chirinos of Venezuela for silver. The Americans added two bronze medalists with Virginia coach Keith Gavin (86kg./189 lbs.) and Minnesota alum Scott Schiller (97kg./213 lbs.).
