Pokes Sweep UIW Cardinals

The Pokes took care of business by taking both games in their midweek series vs UIW

The Pokes got a couple of much needed wins Tuesday and Wednesday as they swept UIW to improve to 4-5. Incarnate Word came into the series sitting at three wins and four losses and traveled out of San Antonio for the first time this year.

The Pokes cruised to 7-1 victory in their home opener with the help of a four-run fourth that put the game away early. A lot of the Pokes' success came virtue of base running. The pokes stole eight bags and Garrett McCain contributed half of them. McCain reached base four times, going 3-4 and drawing a walk. Freshman Ben Leeper got the start and allowed one run in three innings on the hill. Carson Teel picked up the win and blanked the Cardinals in his two innings of work.

The Pokes took the finale of the midweek series with UIW 3-2 thanks to a late RBI double from Corey Hassel. The pokes scored first for the fourth straight game on Donnie Walton's first inning RBI single. Walton drove in two of Oklahoma State's three runs and continued his hot start to the season. Joe Leinhard started for the Pokes and gave up one run in three innings. Tyler Buffett was tabbed with the win and Trey Cobb shutdown the Cardinals to earn his first save of the year.

The Pokes welcome Indiana State (6-3) to Allie P. Reynolds this weekend for a three game series. Game times are set for Friday at 4 P.M., Saturday at 2 P.M. and Sunday at 1 P.M.
