Incoming Oklahoma State basketball player Tyrek Coger died Thursday afternoon during team workouts.

According to reports, the 21-year-old collapsed during stair runs at Boone Pickens Stadium. Dispatch picked up a call at 5:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, and was pronounced dead at Stillwater Medical Center.

Oklahoma State head coach Brad Underwood is in Las Vegas for a recruiting showcase, and issued this press release over the passing of Coger.

"Tyrek was excited to be at Oklahoma State and had such passion for the game and was looking forward to being an OSU Cowboy. Losing a member of the team is like losing member of the family. But we know our loss pales in comparison to the pain his family is going through."

Coger was a JUCO transfer from Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina, and was expected to compete for a starting job immediately.
