After a week of deliberation, it looks like LSU transfer Tyron Johnson is headed to Stillwater. The massively talented wide receiver was seeking a “wide open offense” after he announced his transfer from the Tigers last week.
We thought this could be in the works last week when Johnson announced his intent to transfer. Johnson showed interest in the most 2016 form possible by following OSU Twitter accounts (@TheOkiePokie made the cut!), along with a few other schools.
What stood out was Johnson’s prior interest in OSU. As a 5-star recruit out of high school, Johnson was an Under Armour All American in 2015, and had seriously considered the Cowboys during his high school recruitment. In fact, he had OSU and Texas Tech in his Top 2 before pulling a stunner and committing to LSU at the All-American Game.

Johnson played in four games at LSU last season, catching nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Check out these highlights from his high school career.
Johnson is 6’1”, 190 pounds, and is fast enough to play on the inside, but is big and physical enough to play on the outside. His versatility, matched with his talent, will make him a matchup nightmare in the Big 12.
The addition of Johnson means a lot of things, but the big one? The 2017 wide receiver corps will be filthy with Washington, Johnson and McCleskey headlining. If Mason Rudolph decides to return for his senior season, the Cowboys could expect to be right back in the thick of things in the Big 12.
