Cowboy Wrestling Preview: Oklahoma State vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

History repeats itself...for the 51st time

The most anticipated collegiate wrestling match-up of the season is here.

At 2 p.m. today Gallagher-Iba Arena will play host to the 51st meeting between #1 Oklahoma State (5-0) and #3 Iowa (7-0), which is said to be one of the greatest wrestling rivalries in the history of the sport.

History

The Cowboys sit atop the series win column with 27-21-2 record, as well as owning 34 national team titles to Iowa’s 23. Oh, and Oklahoma State also boasts 141 individual titles to the Hawkeyes 81. Oklahoma State coach John Smith is the winningest coach in the series, yes, that means more wins than Iowa legend Dan Gable.

However, Iowa has won three straight in the series including last year’s Grapple on the Gridiron in Iowa City.
