Unsung Hero: TCU and Arkansas

This senior had one of his most productive weeks of the season.

The Cowboys finally have a winning streak going after two very convincing home wins against the TCU Horned Frogs and Arkansas Razorbacks this week. The Cowboys look like they are bouncing back after a miserable start to conference play. A small defensive adjustment has paid dividends for Brad Underwood’s squad. The offensive outbursts are still around with the Cowboys putting up 89 against TCU and 99 against Arkansas.

Jawun Evans burst back onto the scene, with a 27 point, 8 assist outburst against TCU, and 16 points, 8 assists against Arkansas. Davon Dillard looks to be getting better with each game passing, adding 10 points in each of the last two games as well as more highlight reel dunks to add to his resume. Phil Forte became the all time record holder for career 3 point makes, passing Keiton Page. But now the question remains, who was the unsung hero this week?

For this week, I am giving the honor to Leyton Hammonds.

The 6’8 senior had a great week for the Cowboys, especially against Arkansas. Hammonds had 10 points on 4-5 shooting, including knocking down both his 3-point attempts. His impact on the offensive end has started to translate to the defensive side of the ball. He played tremendous defense in the low post on Saturday, contesting multiple shots while not committing stupid fouls. His ability to be a rim protector is extremely important for the Cowboys going forward. If he continues to play hard on both ends of the floor, it could mean a lot of success for Oklahoma State.
