Rickie Fowler was a big fan of Arnold Palmer, as was most of the golf world. When Palmer died in September 2016, Fowler, the golf community and the world was rocked. Fowler was emotional when he brought the Ryder Cup to Palmer’s funeral. It’s no secret Fowler adored The King.
This week is the first playing of the Arnold Palmer Invitational since Palmer’s death, and Fowler wanted to make sure and honor The King in a special way.
Oh man are those pretty. Good thing this isn’t the NFL, so Fowler doesn’t have to worry about fines. (Although Pittsburgh Steeler Antonio Brown didn’t get fined for his Palmer cleats.) Fowler’s biggest sponsor Puma collaborated with Dominic Chambrone (a.k.a. The Shoe Surgeon) to design the shoes, and they feature pictures of Palmer as well as Palmer’s signature on the strap.
Do you want to own the only other pair of these size 9 custom golf shoes in existence? There is one being auctioned off on ebay. From the ebay description:
The custom PUMA Golf Hi-Tops were designed and created by Dominic Chambrone, also known as The Shoe Surgeon, as commissioned by PUMA Golf. Only two pairs of the shoes exist – one Rickie will wear on course, and the other, personally autographed by Rickie, will be auctioned off for charity. All proceeds from the auction will go to support Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.
"I feel privileged to have known Arnie and be able to call him a friend. I wanted to do something to celebrate what he did on the course and more importantly how he used his platform to benefit others through his Foundation! He is the King after all!!"
As part of the design process, Chambrone utilized a high-grade infused graphic printed directly into the leather, resulting in a vibrant, high-quality finish. He then hand-cut each piece to fit the exact specs of the PUMA Golf Hi-Top. Other key features:
-The velcro strap is laser engraved with Palmer’s signature.
-Behind the tongue of the left shoe is the iconic umbrella logo that has become synonymous with Arnold’s brands.
-Behind the tongue of the right shoe includes a quote from Fowler in remembrance of The King. (Picture below)
The pair featured in the auction will come in a custom wood engraved box with Arnie’s signature and dates of life.
The shoes will cost you a pretty penny though, as the bidding is already over $2,000 with six days left on the auction.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational tees off Thursday from Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida with Fowler scheduled to tee off of the first tee at 12:56 p.m. with Adam Hadwin and Graeme McDowell. Fowler has +1600 odds to win the Invitational according to Odds Shark. Jason Day (+700) is the favorite to win the tournament.
So let’s all grab an Arnold Palmer as we remember The King and cheer on Rickie as he goes for his second win this calendar year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
