The Cowboys won their eighth straight game, this time defeating the Sooners 4-3 on Tuesday to end their home stand 9-1. Oklahoma State also added on another Bedlam victory on the year. (That’s always fun, right?)
The Cowboy bats got started quick with a whammy to right field from Collin Simpson in the second. Then RBIs from Ryan Sluder and Garrett Benge made the score 3-0 Cowboys at the end of the third. Oklahoma cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth on an RBI from Ranae Martinez, but an RBI from Cade Cabiness in at the bottom of the fourth made it 4-1 Cowboys. OU would score two more runs on an RBI from Brady Linsly in the sixth and a balk from Jake Cowan in the eight.
On the other side of the ball, the Cowboy pitching staff, led by Blake Battenfield, gave up three runs on 10 hits. Ten hits is more than I would like for our staff to give up, but if the other team doesn’t score off of them, I guess it's alright. Meanwhile the OU pitching staff, lead by Nathan Wiles, gave up four runs on seven hits.
One thing the Cowboys need to get figured out before Big 12 play starts is closing. They went into the sixth inning with a 4-1 run lead and almost blew it. That’s not going to fly playing in a league with multiple Top 25 teams in it and a lot of good hitters.
The Cowboys will start Big 12 play this weekend in Fort Worth against TCU. The first game of the series will be Friday a 6 p.m. The game Saturday will be at 7:00 and the game Sunday will be at 1 p.m.
