Yesterday, Oklahoma State hired a new men’s basketball coach. And if you’re anything like the CRFF staff, you had to google his name to figure out who he was. Well, let’s take this time to get to know new head coach Mike Boynton.
Mike Boynton graduated from South Carolina in 2004, where he played point guard and was a 4-year letterwinner.
After his time at South Carolina, he was associate head coach at Wofford College. Following his time at Wofford, Boynton went back to Columbia in 2008 to be an assistant coach where he was on staff for the Gamecocks upset of No. 1 Kentucky in the 2009-2010 season and then No. 2 Michigan State and then No. 2 Ohio State in the 2010-2011 season. All while having on of the youngest teams in the country.
After his time at South Carolina, he then became an assistant at Stephen F. Austin under Brad Underwood in 2012 where the Lumberjacks went the NCAA tournament twice in a row in the 2013-2014 season and the 2014-2015 season.
Then in 2016, he followed Underwood here to Oklahoma State where they went to the tournament again this year.
Now for some personal stuff about Coach Boynton:
He is from Brooklyn, New York
He has a (super adorable) daughter named Zoe:
