The Cowboys start Big 12 play 0-3 after getting swept by TCU in Fort Worth. It’s the first time Oklahoma State has lost their series against the Horned Frogs since 2013.

Game 1

The Cowboys got really close in this one, getting leads of 2-0 and 5-3, but end up on the losing end, falling 5-7.

The Cowboys took a 2-0 lead of an RBI single by Garrett Benge in the first inning and a run scored by Benge on a error in the fourth inning.

The Horned Frogs took their first lead in the bottom of the fifth when Ethan Skoug hit a 3-run home run to make the score 3-2 Horn Frogs.

The Cowboys managed to tie it up at three in the sixth on a RBI single by Colin Simpson. They added two more runs in the eighth, but the lead didn’t last long.

It started in the bottom of the eighth when TCU got two solo home runs by Luken Baker and Nolan Brown to make it 5-5. An RBI double from Austen Wade put the Horn Frogs up 5-7 and the Cowboys weren’t able to rally.

The Cowboy pitching staff, lead by Tyler Buffett, gave up 7 runs and 9 hits. Carson Teel got the loss after pitching two innings and giving up 4 runs on 3 hits.

Meanwhile the Horn Frog pitching staff, lead by Jared Janczak, gave up 5 runs on 9 hits.

Game 2

Another close game for the Cowboys ends with a loss, this one 6 to 5.

TCU got ahead early in this one playing small ball. In the bottom of the third, the Horned Frogs scored four runs, two on RBI’s from Cam Warner and Josh Watson, then two more off multiple errors.

The Cowboys started their rally in the sixth. Johnathan Littel had 2 RBIs, followed by another 2-RBIs by Cade Cabbiness to tie up the ball game. Colin Simpson then reached on a fielding error to bring home another run and give the Cowboys a 5-4 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last long. In the bottom of the sixth, TCU was able to tie up the game an RBI from Nolan Brown. Then Ethan Skoug hit an RBI to bring home the winning run in the seventh. The Cowboys weren’t able to rally and game ended 5-6.

The Cowboy pitching staff, lead by Johnathan Heasley, gave up 6 runs on 7 hits. Meanwhile the Horn Frog pitching staff lead by Nick Lodolo, gave up 5 runs on 7 hits.

Game 3: This game wasn’t quite the battle as the first two with the Cowboys losing 5-1.

Dustin Willams had a RBI in the third to bring in Andrew Rosa for the Cowboys only run of the game. Meanwhile TCU scored on RBI from Luken Baker in the first, a home run from Cam Warner in the third, and error in the 4th, an RBI from Ryan Merrill in the fifth, and another RBI from Ethan Skoug in the 6th.

The Cowboy pitching staff, lead by Blake Battenfield, gave up 5 runs on 11 hits. Meanwhile the Horn Frog pitching staff, lead by Brian Howard, gave up 1 run on 6 hits.

The Cowboys are going to have to learn to close, giving up runs at the end of games is killing them.
