Cowgirl Softball Gets First Ever Sweep Over Texas

A dramatic Sunday win helps OSU make history

@CowgirlSB, Oklahoma State

The Cowgirl Softball team made history this weekend with their first ever sweep over Texas, thanks to 10-9 victory on Sunday in Stillwater!

The three wins also give the Cowgirls a 3-0 start to conference play, their best start since 2010.

It took five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force the eighth inning, and an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth by Vanessa Shippy to get the Cowgirls the third win of the series.

Shippy was one of the two stars of the day, going 4-5 with a game-high five RBIs, and scoring three runs. The other star was Hayleigh Galvan, who hit her first career home run to tie the game at 8 in the seventh and force extra innings.

Sunday’s game provided a lot more offense than games one and two which ended 1-0 and 2-1.

Coming into Friday’s opening game, the Cowgirls had lost six straigh against the Longhorns. This series win is another sign of real change in head coach Kenny Gajewski’s second season. After 32 wins and a trip to the NCAA tournament last season for the first time since 2011, the Cowgirls are 22-11 so far this season.
