PREVIEW: No. 18 Cowboys vs. No. 27 Missouri State

The two ranked team tangle in Stillwater tonight

In just a few minutes, Oklahoma State will take on Missouri State in a midweek clash of ranked teams at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.

The Cowboys have not gotten off to the greatest of starts this season, but it is much too early to throw in the towel. After taking 2-of-3 in the Frisco Classic, the Cowboys look to get another win over a ranked opponent before welcoming South Dakota State to town for a weekend series.

The Opponent

Missouri State is off to a hot start on the season, boasting a 10-1 record and earning victories over teams such as Oral Roberts, Central Arkansas and Arkansas State to name a few.

They come into Stillwater riding an eight game winning streak, including a series sweep of Central Arkansas.

The Bears have an impressive team ERA of 1.53, striking out 109 batters and only walking 30. Opponents of the Bears’ pitchers are only hitting .183 on the season.

As a team, the Bears have a team batting average of .264 on the young season, driving in 76 runs on 100 hits. They also strike out a lot, with 96 on the season.


For the Cowboys, right hander Joe Lienhard will take the mound. Lienhard is 0-0 on the season, with a 3.00 ERA. He has given up eight hits on the season, two runs, four strikeouts and four walks. Lienhard will look to improve the OSU staff’s 5.03 ERA.

Garrett McCain looks to continue his hot start. The junior outfielder is hitting .395 on the season to go with 17 hits and eight RBIs.
