The Cowboys’ struggles continued in the Sprint Center on Thursday afternoon.

With the team struggling on both ends of the floor to rebound, get turnovers, and defend against the 3, Iowa State was able to outlast the Cowboys and win 92-83.

In the first half, the Cowboys looked like they were going to be able to keep up with the Cyclones, matching them shot for shot, even leading 8-4. Then, the Cowboys went down by as many as 12 points. They traded some more baskets and Oklahoma State trailed by three at halftime with a score of 39-36 Iowa State.

After halftime things just got worse for the Cowboys. They shot 42-percent from the the field and 42-percent from the 3-point line, meanwhile the Cyclones were 64-percent from the field and 87-percent from the three point line. Midway through the second half Iowa State went on 6-0 run to make it 51-62. The Cowboys kept up and traded baskets for while but the Cyclones lead eventually just kept growing and the game ended with 83-92 loss for the Pokes.

On the bright side, Juwan Evans did this:

Evans was 12-21 including 2-3 from the 3-point line and scored 29 (!!) points. Evans was also 3-4 from the charity stripe. It’s gonna be important for him to be playing his best if the pokes want to go deep into March.

Phil Forte had a game scoring 12 points and going 4-10 from the arc and 2-6 from the 3-point line. Jeffrey Carroll scored 21 points on 8-19 shooting including 3-8 from the three

Iowa State had four players in double digits. Monte Morris scored 21 points, Matt Thomas had 13, Deonte Burton had 17, and Nazareth Mitrou-Long had 14 points.

When you have a team that’s shooting like Iowa State is, it’s hard to win.

The pokes now await their tournament fate.
