The Opponent:
The Jayhawks come into the weekend with a 15-6 record (5-4 in the Big 12). The team currently has a batting average of .233 which isn’t the greatest. Matt McClaughlin currently leads the team with an average of .336 which is better. They are currently on a two game win streak after beating West Virginia and Wichita State.
The Jayhawks currently have a high 4.23 ERA with Zach Leban having the lowest ERA at 2.08 in 21.1 innings pitched. The starter for tonight and Saturday have not been released, but Friday, Taylor Turski is on the bump with a 2.68 ERA and a 2-3 record in seven starts.
The Cowboys:
The Cowboys are 19-13 on the season and 3-6 in Big 12 play. The Pokes are currently hitting .276 as a team led by Garrett McCain with an average of .350. Look for Garrett Benge and Collin Simpson to do some hitting as well this weekend after Simpson hit two homers in the weekend series versus Kansas State and Benge got a homer in the game against Central Arkansas.
The Pokes’ pitching staff hold a 4.00 ERA led by Jake Cowan with 2.08 in 21.2 innings pitched. Look for Tyler Buffett on the bump on Friday. Buffet has a 3.62 ERA and is 5-2 in eight starts on the mound.
The Cowboys are going to have to play some great baseball this weekend if they want to keep their dreams of Omaha alive.
