The Most Important Cowboy Football Players For 2017: No. 9

We head back to the line as we enter single digits on our countdown.

We are inching closer and closer to the Spring Game. Up next in the countdown is a lineman who made significant contributions to the team in his first season in orange and is looking to finish his college career strong.

No. 9 DeQuinton Osborne

NCAA Football: Iowa State at Oklahoma State Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

Osborne, a 6-foot-0, 305-pound defensive tackle, is a redshirt senior, but is only in his sophomore season with the Cowboys. He played the first two years of his collegiate career at Kilgore Junior College. He technically used his first year of eligibility at Missouri, but he redshirted that season before transferring to play at the JUCO level.

Last season, Osborne played in 11 games. He recorded 12 tackles, 5.5 of which were for loss. He was also third on the team in sacks with 3.5 on the season, and had an interception when he dropped back into coverage at Kansas and just about had a pick six.

I expect Osborne to have a huge season. Glenn Spencer needs him to have a big season, as he lost star defensive tackle Vincent Taylor to the NFL Draft.

Spencer has a very experienced defensive line, and hopefully they can generate enough pressure that opposing QBs won’t have all day to rip apart our young cornerback position.

We will be releasing the rest of our countdown each day leading up to the Spring Game April 15th. Check back every day to see who makes the list!
