Oklahoma State continues work to build it’s 2018 class. That apparently includes the pursuit of 3-star safety Israel Mukuamu out of Bossier City, Louisiana.

In a recent interview with Woody Wommack of Rivals, Mukuamu said that Oklahoma State defensive back coach Dan Hammerschmidt has been working hard to land his services.
“When I first got to Louisiana I followed the safeties coach, Coach Hammerschmidt on Twitter and I inboxed him and sent him my film and he liked it right away. I went up there for a junior day and he said he was going to be at my spring practice and before spring they offered me and I was surprised because it was out of nowhere. Since then they have really been on me. Coach Hammerschmidt really likes me a lot and I really like them as well.”
Mukuamu also had thoughts on OSU’s campus...
“It was great. I love the campus. It’s a college town type school and I like that so if I choose to go there I won’t really be distracted by all that stuff. I like it a lot. It was cool hanging out with Coach Gundy, he’s a really nice guy. I like him a lot.”
... and the big man himself, Coach Gundy.
“When I talked to him I went to his office and he said they really liked the way I played and that their safeties coach would have a position for me no matter what and they’re just waiting for me to commit. He said he believes that I’m the guy for them and he feels that I’m going to graduate and in three or four years I can be the next face of the program.”
As of now, Mukuamu has offers from 15 schools including OSU, Ole’ Miss, South Carolina, Louisville, and North Carolina State, among others. However, Mukuamu says he’s been hearing a lot from Alabama and Florida State, where he will attend camp, as well as LSU and Texas.
According to Wommack, Oklahoma State is in the driver’s seat to land Mukuamu. However, this is starting to feel like the situation where an Alabama or LSU is going to make the kid an offer a day or two before signing day if they lose out to a big prospect to another top school.
Oklahoma State currently has one 2018 safety prospect committed in 3-star Kolby Peel. It’s likely the Cowboy coaching staff would like to add another to the roster. If they can get Mukuamu to commit and then hang on to him, he could end up being a steal for OSU.
