Oklahoma State’s Mens Golf Team is headed to the NCAA Championship after a win at the Austin Regional at the University of Texas Golf Club. The victory is Oklahoma State’s NCAA-leading 12th regional title.
The Cowboys finished the tournament at 13-under overall, two shots ahead of second place Texas (-11) and six shots ahead of third place Iowa State (-7).
OSU came into the final round in second place at 1-over and four shots behind Texas. It used a 14-under 270 final round to pull ahead of, and eventually beat the Longhorns. Texas finished the tournament at 11-under after an 8-under 276 final round.
Individually, OSU had three players finish in the top five: Zachary Olsen, Kristoffer Ventura, and Viktor Hovland. They all finished at 3-under in a five-way tie for 5th place, with Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest and Alex Del Rey Gonzalez of Arizona State. Zach Bauchou finished at 2-under, tied with four others players for 10th place. Oklahoma State’s Hayden Wood finished the tournament at 6-over and tied for 31st place.
The biggest movers of the day were Iowa State who shot a staggering 21-under as a team. They were led by Nick Voke who finished with the best individual score of 14-under after a course record 10-under 61 in the final round.
This win serves as a bit of revenge for OSU, who lost the Big 12 trophy to Texas by one stroke just a couple of weeks ago.
This is the 12th NCAA regional title, adding to their NCAA record, and qualifies OSU for their 70th trip to the NCAA Championship Finals.
This year’s Championship will be held at Rich Harvest Farms golf course in Sugar Grove, Illinois and runs Friday, May 26th through Wednesday, May 31st. OSU will be going for their 11th National Title in golf and first since 2006.
