3-Star Cornerback JayVeon Cardwell Commits to Oklahoma State

OSU gets their 17th commit of the 2018 class

Oklahoma State added to it’s already impressive 2018 recruiting class tonight with the commitment of 3-star Cibolo, Texas cornerback JayVeon Cardwell.

First I want to take this time to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. I want to give a special thanks to my parents for supporting me all these years and through the recruiting process. I also want to thank family, friends, and the many colleges that offered me. Last but not least I want to thank all the coaches for believing in my abilities and pushing me to work hard at my craft. The recruiting process has been a great blessing and I’m beyond grateful to these opportunities and options. With that being said I would like to announce my verbal commitment to Oklahoma State University to further my education and play football. #CowboysUp18 #okstate

Cardwell chose Oklahoma State over offers from 18 other schools including Baylor, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Duke, Colorado, and Houston among others.

Cardwell’s announcement comes after he made a trip to Stillwater last week, one that apparently swayed his decision.

“Coming up there, Oklahoma State was one of my top schools, but I hadn’t seen it yet,” he said. “I wanted to get up there and see it and it was better than I thought it would be and it just felt right to go through with it.”

One other thing Cardwell is excited about? OSU’s depth and talent at the wide receiver position.

“I think that they have one of the best wide receiver groups in the nation so for me getting to work against those top guys just helps me add to my craft and helps with what I need to get better at.”

While OSU has two other class of 2018 players commited to playing cornerback in Gabe Lemons and Jaelyn Nolan, Cardwell is the Cowboys first true cornerback commit.

Last season for Steele High School, he had 54 tackles including three TFLs, seven interceptions including one returned for a TD, six pass breakups, and three recovered fumbles.
