After entering Sunday’s final round of the HNA French Open tied for the lead, former Oklahoma State golfer Peter Uihlein finished Sunday in second place, one shot behind winner Tommy Fleetwood.
Uihlein began the final 18 at 8-under, but suffered back-to-back bogeys on holes four and five at Le Golf National in Paris. Uihlein was able to recover, getting five birdies to finish 3-under for the day and 11-under for the tournament.
That included a birdie on No. 17, after this great second shot.
However, it wasn’t enough to catch Brit Tommy Fleetwood, who used a bogey-free 5-under 66 to take the title. Fleetwood finished his round before Uihlein and had to wait while the former Poke tried to make a comeback.
The second place finish will likely bolt Uihlein up from his World ranking of 162nd, however it leaves him still looking for his first Euro tour victory since 2013.
Fellow former Cowboy Alex Noren also competed at the HNA Open de France, finishing at 5-under and in a three-way tie for 10th with Lee Westwood and likely Rookie-of-the-Year winner Jon Rahm.
While he didn’t get the trophy, Uihlein’s performance did earn him a spot at the Open which takes place July 16th - 23rd.
Congrats to both Uihlein and Noren on their performances this weekend!
