Addressing the James Washington Rumors

My take on the talk of Oklahoma State.

If you missed it last night, Barstool Sports’ popular podcast "Pardon My Take” broke the news that Oklahoma State WR1 James Washington would be out the first four weeks of the season with a hernia.

As you would expect, this sent the majority of OSU supporters into a whirlwind, as everybody was trying to get confirmation or disprove the claim.

Here's why I think it's a load of bologna.

"Pardon My Take” is not what I consider a credible source.

If you have ever listened to their podcast, you know they like to have fun and they don't take anything too seriously. That was the first red flag that this news may not be true.

None of the local beat writers or any local news outlets have been able to confirm the news.

How would an outlet headquartered in New York City get the scoop before anybody local - especially Robert Allen, a.k.a. Gundy's favorite.

The timing was odd.

PMT "broke” the news at 10:30 p.m. CST. How did it go by all day without anybody breaking the news first?

THEY DELETED THEIR TWEET.

If that doesn't scream "We don't actually know we just said it to rile OSU fans up" check this next point out.

Check out the DMs.

@BP_State on Twitter was able to get them to respond, and essentially, PMT said they had no idea if it was true or not and someone fed them a good story and they shared it.

BUT...

If Washington is injured, IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.

It's been the story of the offseason. How insanely deep the WR corps is. OSU's top six or seven wide-outs would start on any other team most likely. The Oklahoma State offense will not collapse with the loss of Washington. Will it hurt? Absolutely. Don't get me wrong, I hate that this happened to a guy who has done nothing but worked hard since he got to campus.

However, if I had to pick a group to lose a key player from, it would be the WR corps.

ALSO...

It's a little too random to pick out Washington from Oklahoma State to spread fake news.

Lauren Rew of The Franchise is reporting PMT may have a thread of truth.

Step away from the edge, Cowboy fans. If it's true, it will be fine. Washington will be back for all but one conference game, according to PMT. Our depth will keep us in the running. Don't let this news ruin your weekend.

We will stick with this story and pass on information as it becomes available.
