MVP Draft Recap: Week 3 - Pitt

See how the staff fared this week in our Oklahoma State MVP Draft.

Hey guys, I’m back. First off, I’d like to thank Austin for stepping up and taking care of the MVP Draft last week while I was swamped with classwork and other stuff. As a reward, he gets a bonus point for his trouble. (I did say I could be bribed...)

*And now we take a live look at Austin, who didn’t know this was coming.*

Now, let's move on to the points.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

Offense

There really isn't a clear-cut winner this week, as the offense exploded. Mason Rudolph had nearly 500 yards and five TDs without playing the fourth quarter again. The wide receiving corps had four receivers over 100 yards, including Jalen McCleskey's 162 yards and three scores. Justice Hill didn't break 100 yards, but he found paydirt twice.

Without further ado, here's my OMVP.

It's gotta be QB1 to me. Passing for 497 yards on 23 completions and FIVE touchdowns is a damn impressive feat to me. Rudolph is only a quarter of the way through the season and he already has 1,135 passing yards (No. 5 in country), 11 passing TDs (No. 2 in country) and a 210.3 passing efficiency ranking (No. 5 in country). Rudolph is doing his best to convince the Heisman voters and NFL execs that he is the real deal and should not be taken lightly.

Defense

This wasn't nearly as difficult as the offense. My pick was not only tied for the team lead in tackles with five, he had his second pick-six in as many weeks.

But wait a minute, nobody picked LB Justin Phillips this week. No biggie. Phillips wasn't the only defensive player to have a good game this week.

It was Whitener who initially tipped the ball that Phillips grabbed for the pick-six. In addition, Whitener had four tackles, all solo, and a QB hurry. Whitener is in his final season as a Cowboy, and the LB is now officially DMVP against Pitt.

Pittsburgh Panthers

Offense

Well, the two players picked this week had a combined 80 offensive yards. That’s not great. QB Ben Dinucci had a respectable day, completing 13-of-25 for 228 yards, a TD and two INTs. That would have been enough, had someone picked him. Instead, the majority picked Quadree Henderson.

Henderson had one reception for 74 yards and one rush for 1 yard. The only reason I’m giving him the point is he had 85 yards in the kick return game, which isn’t bad.

Defense

This was a unanimous choice from all four of our pickers (Cade didn’t pick for whatever reason), and I SUPPOSE I’ll be nice and give everyone a point (except for Cade).

Oluwaseun Idowu takes a breather between plays. Idowu is this week’s DMVP for Pitt.
Matt Sunday/DKPS

Oluwaseun Idowu was the leading tackler for the Panthers, however, he had more assisted tackles (four) than solo tackles (three). Ideally, I would have went with Rashad Weaver, who had four tackles, one sack and 1.5 TFL, but I decided to have mercy on the pickers this week and take their unanimous choice.

Cade - 0 points

Cade didn’t make any picks this week.

Austin - 2 points +1 Bonus = 3 Points

OSU: O - Justice Hill | D - AJ Green
Pitt: O - Quadree Henderson | D – Oluwaseun Idowu

Joel’s great week has capulted him into first! Meanwhile, our leader who didn’t feel the need to make any picks has free-fallen to the basement.

“J”

HUGE S/O to “J” for making this meme for me. You da bomb.com!

Standings after Week 3:

1 - Joel: 5
T2 - Dustin: 4
T2 - Micah: 4
T2 - Austin: 4
5 - Cade: 2

Come back Friday for the picks as the Cowboys open up conference play at home against the TCU Horned Frogs. Gameday will be in town - just kidding - they will be in New York City for some unknown reason.
